Zip-loc Omelets
Contributed by Bob Carey, Omaha NE
Bob says: “A great test-proven idea for campers, picnickers, cookouts, or any kind of family get-togethers. The real beauty of this recipe is no fuss, no mess, no clean-up, and no one has to wait for his or her special omelet. 6-8 separate omelets can be cooked and all ready at the same time”.
In a quart-size Zip-loc freezer bag, crack not more than two large or extra large eggs. Seal the bag and shake it until the eggs are mixed well.
Open the bag and add your favorite omelet ingredients to the bag – can include any combination of the following:
1-3 eggs per person
Cheese
Ham
Bacon bits
Onion
Green pepper
Tomato
Hash browns
Salsa
Hot sauce
Salt and pepper
Seal the bag tightly, being sure to squeeze all the air out.
Place the bags into a container of water heated to a rolling boil. Heat for about 13 minutes. After heating, CAREFULLY remove the bag from the hot water. Open the bag, and the omelet will roll out easily, hot and ready to eat.
If you plan to prepare these omelets while camping, you can prepare them before you leave home and put them in a cooler. Or, you can take the ingredients along in separate bowls and let everyone there make their own omelet to taste.
Be sure to have each person put his or her name on the bag before cooking |
